Mar. 28, 2022

Minecraft Server

Minecraft, the immensely popular sandbox game, offers players the opportunity to create and customize their own virtual worlds. Whether you're hosting a server for friends, a community, or the public, making your Minecraft server public allows players from around the world to join in on the fun and engage in collaborative gameplay. In this article, we will guide you through the steps to make your Minecraft server public, unlocking the online world and inviting players to explore and create in your server.

Step 1: Configure Port Forwarding

To make your Minecraft server public, you need to configure port forwarding on your router. Port forwarding allows incoming connections to reach your server through specific ports. Here's a general guide on how to set up port forwarding:

  1. Determine your server's local IP address: On the computer running your Minecraft server, open Command Prompt and type "ipconfig." Look for the IPv4 address, which typically starts with "192.168." This is your server's local IP address.

  2. Access your router settings: Open a web browser and enter your router's IP address in the address bar. You can find this information in your router's manual or by searching online for your router model.

  3. Log in to your router: Enter your router's username and password. If you haven't changed these, the default login details are usually found on a sticker on the router or in the router's manual.

  4. Find the port forwarding settings: The location of port forwarding settings varies depending on the router model. Look for options like "Virtual Servers," "Port Forwarding," or "NAT."

  5. Create a new port forwarding rule: Set up a new port forwarding rule by providing the necessary details. Enter the local IP address of your Minecraft server, the port number (usually 25565 for Minecraft), and select both TCP and UDP protocols. Save the settings.

Step 2: Obtain Your Public IP Address

To make your Minecraft server public, players need to connect to your server's public IP address. This address identifies your server on the internet. To obtain your public IP address:

  1. Open a web browser on the computer running your Minecraft server.
  2. Search for "What is my IP" or visit a website like ipchicken.com or whatismyip.com.
  3. The website will display your public IP address. Take note of this address as you will need to share it with players who want to join your server.

Step 3: Update Server Properties

Open the server.properties file in your Minecraft server folder using a text editor. Look for the "server-ip" property and replace its value with your public IP address. Save the changes to the file.

Step 4: Configure Firewall Settings

To ensure that your Minecraft server is accessible to players, you need to configure your computer's firewall settings to allow incoming connections on the Minecraft server port (default: 25565). Here's how to do it:

  1. Open the Control Panel on your computer.
  2. Search for "Windows Defender Firewall" and click on it.
  3. Click on "Advanced settings" on the left side of the window.
  4. In the Inbound Rules section, click on "New Rule" on the right side of the window.
  5. Select "Port" and click "Next."
  6. Choose "TCP" as the protocol and enter the Minecraft server port number (default: 25565). Click "Next."
  7. Select "Allow the connection" and click "Next."
  8. Keep all the checkboxes checked and click "Next."
  9. Give the rule a name (e.g., "Minecraft Server") and click "Finish."

Step 5: Share Server Information

To make your Minecraft server public, you need to share the server information with players who want to join. Provide them with the following details:

  1. Public IP address: Share your public IP address obtained in Step 2.
  2. Server port: Share the Minecraft server port number (default: 25565).
  3. Server name: Give your server a recognizable name.
  4. Server rules (if applicable): Inform players of any rules or guidelines they should follow while playing on your server.

You can share this information through forums, social media groups, or dedicated Minecraft server directories.

By following these steps, you can make your Minecraft server public, allowing players from around the world to connect and enjoy the unique experiences you've created. Remember to monitor your server, enforce any rules you've set, and foster a welcoming and enjoyable environment for players to thrive in. So, unlock the online world and watch as your Minecraft server becomes a hub of creativity, collaboration, and excitement.
